BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Heroes 2011

Janice and Ian with Daisy, Sam and Jamie and the fantastic BBC Sports Personality trophy

On the evening of 22 December, at a starstudded event, Red Star AC's 2 coaches and founder members, Janice Eaglesham and Ian Mirfin, were presented with the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Heroes Award. This award recognises the outstanding contribution that someone has made, on a voluntary basis, to their sport. Whilst Janice and Ian were at pains to point out that all of the other finalists were equally deserving, we at Red Star are enormously proud of their success. Well done both of you!!

Janice and Ian had been nominated for the award by Sam Howie (one of Red Star's first ever athletes) and Jamie Cuthbertson, also an ex member of the club. After the nomination was accepted, all entries went into regional heats before going forward to the final in Salford. Janice and Ian won the BBC Scotland area heat.

On this page you will find links to some of the media coverage of the event, including some film of our athletes training on the night when Janice and Ian were presented with their local heat prize, by Tommy Boyle.
